Myra Dunoyer Kavira Vahighene

Storytelling Pathway Lead

“Myra Dunoyer is a compound first name that my mother found in a novel she was reading before I was born. I like to think I was preceded by a story, and that I am now writing my own, on behalf of characters and communities that need to leave a trace. Vahighene, in Kinande, means ‘they have separated themselves from evil.’ Kavira, among the Nande, refers to the second-born daughter, the one who also takes care of the household’s cleanliness. These names connect me to imagination, transmission, and a sense of responsibility: for me, writing is a way of caring for memory.”

Myra is a recognized writer and storyteller whose work spans projects blending African oral traditions, continental languages, visual creation, and digital storytelling. Her work is attentive to historical wounds, collective silences, and imaginaries in need of repair. She explores African narratives in all their complexity, with the ambition of restoring Africans’ ownership of their stories. Her writing affirms literature as a space of memory, resistance, and reinvention, for the Congo and for Africa.

She joins Terra Mucho in 2025 and currently leads the storytelling pathway. She ensures coherence across the journey, supports smooth implementation, and contributes to the quality of the learning and narrative experience. She co-facilitates collective sessions with members of the Mosaïque Mwasi Collective and helps structure the content and experiences offered to participants.

She is driven by the ambition to restore Africans’ ownership of their narratives, placing storytelling at the service of memory, dignity, and transformation.
