Marie-Ange Goux

Board Chair

“For a long time, I carried my name like something too heavy and too visible. Marie-Ange sounded long, difficult to pronounce, deeply religious, and sometimes out of place in the international settings where I worked. For nearly thirty years, everyone simply called me Marie. Friends, colleagues, even family rarely used my full name, most did not even know about it. But with time, I made peace with it. I began to hear its poetry instead of its weight. In a world full of Maries, there is only one Marie-Ange. What once felt awkward slowly became a source of strength and recognition. Today, I no longer try to make my name smaller. I wear it fully, with the understanding that its uniqueness is part of my story.”

Marie-Ange is a global health and humanitarian specialist with over 20 years of experience working at the intersection of sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender equality, and humanitarian response. She has led programs across Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and beyond, navigating complexity with the strategic clarity and deep human commitment that define her approach.

Currently based in Kampala as an SRHR Specialist with Handicap International–Humanity & Inclusion, she combines deep field expertise with senior leadership experience across some of the world’s most challenging contexts.

Marie-Ange and Mireille’s paths first crossed in Kampala in 2022, brought together through the friendship of their daughters. From those early conversations, she became a trusted sounding board and thoughtful advisor as Terra Mucho began to take shape. What bonds them is a shared commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of women and vulnerable people, a conviction that runs through everything Marie-Ange does.

She joined the Board of Directors in 2024 and now serves as Chair, contributing to the organization’s strategic direction, development, and impact.

Her work has always been driven by one conviction: that real change happens when the most vulnerable are not just served, but heard, included, and empowered. When she is not shaping strategies or diving into her latest book, you will likely find her on the dance floor, fully committed.
